Black Powder War - Naomi Novik The theme of this book seemed to be that the characters are utterly screwed, and then the situation continues to get worse. Right up until the very end, I really had no idea how the hell they were going to get out of it all. It was almost too intense, if anything.

Like the ones before it, the book is fast-paced and engaging. I enjoy the social issues it brings up, and I just love the dragons and want to give them hugs.
